OUR HISTORY

Grant Street Construction, Inc. started business in 1996. We evolved from F. G. Compagni Construction Co. Inc. upon the retirement of the president Frederick G. Compagni Sr. Mr. Compagni began business in 1946 operating Economy Coal Company. When natural gas became available and decreased the need for coal, the Compagni family formed Economy Paving and began installing concrete sidewalks. Compagni Construction Co. Inc. was born a few years later and business branched out to include concrete roadwork and then Skyline Paving Company paving NYS DOT roadways. In 1967 the need to replace ancient sewer and water lines influenced Frederick G. Compagni Sr. to start F. G. Compagni Construction Co. Inc. It is from this company that Fred Sr.’s sons Richard A. and Frederick G. Jr. and his nephew David J. Compagni the owners of Grant Street Construction Inc. gained their experience in underground utilities. The construction company also replaced several NYS DOT bridges during this era.

Frederick G. Compagni Sr. instilled the philosophy of hard work and honesty in his employees. He believed in fairness and encouraged them to “always do the best they could”. Mr. Compagni supported the utility business as a founding member and president of the Central New York Utility Association and a president of the National Utility Contractors Association.

It is this philosophy that has enabled Grant Street Construction Inc. to grow into a successful utility contractor with a single contract bonding limit of $20,000,000. Grant Street Construction Inc. installs sewer and water lines within the State of New York and Pennsylvania specializing in the more challenging projects with deep excavations, de-watering, by-pass pumping and environmentally sensitive projects. Our projects include horizontal borings, pump stations, river crossings, well houses, meter buildings and chlorination buildings. Our contracts range in size from $100,000 to $9,000,000. We have a solid core of experienced employees, both from the F. G. Compagni Construction Co. Inc. and those who came on board when Grant Street Construction was formed.

We have a 22 ton crane with a New York State certified operator available for rigging.

Many of our employees hold certificates for confined space training, competent person training for trenching and excavation, standard first aid training and adult CPR.

In addition to the construction business Grant Street Construction Inc. also lists a heavy equipment repair and parts department. This division of the business is known as Grant Street Parts and Repair Service. While the roots were founded under F. G. Compagni Construction Co. Inc. Grant Street Parts and Repair Service has blossomed under Grant Street Construction. We offer a complete line of heavy equipment and truck parts, as well as a full staff of experienced heavy duty mechanics. We are a registered NYS inspection station offering light duty vehicle, heavy duty vehicle, and trailer and motorcycle inspections.
